Organizational Description Woodstock Farm Sanctuary rescues farmed animals and gives them care and sanctuary, connects animals with people to advance veganism, and advocates for animal rights in alliance with other social justice movements. We welcome visitors to come and meet animals who are most commonly exploited, abused, and killed in animal agriculture. Our animal residents are given lifelong sanctuary and are treated with respect as individuals. By giving farmed animals the chance to live their lives with dignity and by sharing their stories, we advocate for veganism and aim to reduce suffering for all. Job Overview The Education and Advocacy Manager is full-time, year-round, non-exempt position (hourly) and reports to the Executive Director. The Education and Advocacy Manager directs seasonal weekend educational programming and weekend visitor experience, as well as overseeing both onsite and offsite advocacy efforts, primarily involving outreach and tabling efforts. It is a forward facing position key to the Sanctuary’s mission. Key Responsibilities Manage seasonal weekend visitor education experience April – October: Supervise team of 2 – 4 PT seasonal tour guides Supervise 1 PT seasonal kiosk attendant and 1 PT seasonal store cashier Weekend visitor center and gift store management Give humane education tours each weekend Recruit and train weekend team Design tour content alongside key staff and coach tour guides on tour delivery Evaluate weekend team for continuous improvement Research animal ag industry and pedagogical / change psychology trends to keep tour content current, compelling and accurate Coordinate with shelter staff to ensure animal and visitor safety and design best tour routes Coordinate with events staff on weekend programming Coordinate with marketing and development staff to ensure messaging consistency Work with volunteers and interns to meet program goals Oversee and execute advocacy efforts: Offsite and onsite outreach and tabling opportunities Literature distribution through the remote organization of volunteer street teams Work closely with other departments and constituents on advocacy campaigns   Experience and Qualifications At least two years of supervisory experience Demonstrable commitment to organization’s mission and values Previous experience in education or public speaking Experience working with farmed animals a plus Skills Demonstrated knowledge of farmed animal advocacy and veganism Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to improvise in a fast-paced and fluid work environment Ability to work well collaboratively across departments Excellent customer service skills High degree of comfort interacting with farmed animals   The position description is not all inclusive; other duties may be assigned as needs and opportunities emerge. This position involves standing and sitting for hours at a time, interacting with farmed animals, and moving around the large Sanctuary property for tours and other purposes. It requires working some evenings and most weekends during the season (April – October) with a more flexible and traditional schedule during the rest of the year. Willingness to travel occasionally including overnight stays, reliable transportation important. Pay and benefits are competitive, including retirement, paid holidays, paid vacation, and good health insurance with optional dental and vision.
