Fundraising/Engagement Campaigns Intern

Who We Are:

Catskill Animal Sanctuary is a 148-acre refuge in New York's Hudson Valley for eleven species of farmed animals rescued from cruelty, neglect, and abandonment opened in 2001 by founders Kathy Stevens and Jesse Moore. In addition to direct animal aid, the Sanctuary offers signature programming aimed at encouraging our guests and the world at large to adopt a plant-based lifestyle. Programing includes customized tours, a vegan cooking program, mentor and youth leadership programs, which are positioned to become national models.

Catskill Animal Sanctuary rescues farmed animals, ignites social change to end their exploitation, and champions vegan living.


Location: Saugerties, NY and remote

Position Summary:

This is an unpaid position.

The Development & Community Engagement Department at Catskill Animal Sanctuary is responsible for creating opportunities for individuals, businesses, and the community at large to engage with the Sanctuary with the goal of advancing revenue, deepening relationships with existing supporters, and exciting community members about engaging with and supporting the Sanctuary’s mission. Interns in this department will be interacting with many donors and potential donors and must be enthusiastic and helpful.  Interns prepare communications in support of our campaigns and community engagement activities, help organize special events, provide general administrative support, and complete data entry. This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn the day-to-day business operations of sanctuary life and prepares an intern for a career in not-for-profit and advocacy organizations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in running fundraising campaigns (examples: Valentine’s Day, March Madness, and Cocktails and Cow Tales)
  • Create special events materials
  • Facilitate a development and/or fundraising project
  • Assist with campaign data analysis and data base management
  • Handle relevant correspondence with funders, looping in appropriate staff members when necessary
  • Aid Sponsorship Coordinator in sending out animal photos and updates to sponsors


  • Have an understanding of and be able to effectively communicate the philosophy and mission of Catskill Animal Sanctuary
  • Prior experience in fundraising a plus but not required
  • Be able to follow detailed instructions and meet deadlines
  • Be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with other interns, volunteers and staff
  • Be available a minimum of 8 hours per week
  • Commit to a minimum of 2 months
  • Ability to work non-standard office hours on weekends or evenings for special events
  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks

Position Availability:         

Internships are available year-round and positions are filled on an ongoing basis as applications are received. Summer positions fill quickly, so if you’re interested in these months, please apply early.
