Catskill Animal Sanctuary operates with a small, full-time staff who rely on caring and dedicated volunteers and interns for help with animal care, events, fundraising, office tasks, building and grounds maintenance, outreach, educational programs and summer camp.
Over 90% of the Sanctuary’s volunteers volunteer in animal care; consequently, the position’s primary responsibilities relate to managing the volunteer program as it pertains to animal care volunteers. This management includes recruitment, training, data management, task management, scheduling, and support. Specifically, through orientation, information sessions and on-the-job observation, the Coordinator will ensure animal care volunteers are appropriately matched with and trained for their responsibilities. The Volunteer & Intern Coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring, supporting and motivating volunteers to ensure they enjoy, appreciate and understand their valued contributions to the efforts of the organization.
The Volunteer & Intern Coordinator is also responsible for the general administration and day-to-day coordination of the volunteer and intern programs for all departments: basic recruitment activities, responding to inquiries and intern applications, and maintaining schedules, for example. The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Animal Care Director and/or Barn Manager.
Please submit a cover letter and a resume to be considered for this position.
Catskill Animal Sanctuary is a 148-acre refuge in New York's Hudson Valley for eleven species of farmed animals rescued from cruelty, neglect, and abandonment opened in 2001 by founders Kathy Stevens and Jesse Moore. In addition to direct animal aid, the Sanctuary offers signature programming aimed at encouraging our guests and the world at large to adopt a plant-based lifestyle. Programming includes customized tours, a vegan cooking program, mentor and youth leadership programs, which are positioned to become national models. In addition to programming, the historical Homestead building serves as a Bed and Breakfast venue for guests to enjoy a more in-depth and personal experience of the Sanctuary.
