Job Description

Quality Control Technician

This position works under the direction of the Quality Manager & Assistant Quality Manager, and assists the Quality Manager with ensuring that the production facility and finished products meet food safety and quality standards. Candidate must be organized, detail oriented, and excel at documentation. Candidate must also be a team builder, with the ability to motivate and coach other staff members towards compliance with quality standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform Quality Checks on Products & Production Equipment
  • Collect and log samples for laboratory analysis
  • Analyze samples of product: pH, organoleptic (texture/appearance/flavor), chemical composition, microbiological analysis, temperature
  • Record key ‘checkpoint’ parameters during product processing.
  • Maintain and Calibrate testing instruments.
  • Observe production processes, and ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Food Safety Plan.
  • Perform routine checks of sanitation efficacy – allergenic residue & ATP swab checks, environmental monitoring swabs.
  • Take action according to Product Hold/Release Policy to mark, record, and isolate any non-conforming product for review by management.
  • Perform monitoring and verification activities for Preventive Controls. (ex. Metal Detector Testing, Weight Checks)
  • Perform routine checks of packaging, labels, and code dates to ensure accuracy and correctness during production.
  • Inspect incoming ingredients and materials for compliance to specification.
  • Routinely report observational trends in product and process to Quality Managers.
  • Assist with Research & Development batches made at production-level scale.

Skills and Qualifications:

Education/Work Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field (ex. Chemistry, Microbiology, Mycology, Toxicology, etc.)

AND/OR

  • 2-3 Years Work Experience in Food Manufacturing in a Production or Quality Assurance/Quality Control role.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time, and be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, and ability to use and complete digital forms.
  • Willing to become an expert on GMP work processes and train team to standard procedures as necessary.
  • High attention to details; able to work quickly and accurately.
  • Be able to work flexible hours and be willing to adapt to changes in orders and tasks.
  • Be reliable and dependable in attendance.
  • Multi-task and manage multiple demands and priorities.
  • Manage time well to order tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
