Job Description

Your Mission:

To develop outreach opportunities and generate media coverage and celebrity/influencer support for PETA campaigns in the Latino community.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Researching opportunities for outreach through media, campaigning, and celebrity/social media influencer channels
  • Staying up to date on current affairs and popular culture in the Latino community
  • Researching and engaging celebrities and online influencers who are popular in the Latino community in the U.S. and abroad
  • Working closely with the online marketing team to develop and execute viral campaigns with celebrities and online influencers
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with other entertainment industry professionals in the U.S. and Latin America (including publicists, photographers, etc.)
  • Assisting in the organization of celebrity/influencer projects, including photo shoots and the production and editing of print, radio, and TV commercials, as well as social media campaigns. This may sound glamorous, but it's no easy feat.
  • Writing ad text and video PSA scripts in Spanish and English
  • Writing letters to celebrities and online influencers encouraging them to get involved in various PETA campaigns or to stop supporting industries or acts that harm animals (e.g., wearing fur, buying an animal from a pet store, attending an animal-based circus, eating foie gras)
  • Independently developing and pitching new ideas to increase media coverage and online visibility for PETA's campaigns and events in the Latino community
  • Liaising and developing relationships with members of the Latin media in the U.S. and abroad
  • Servicing news releases in Spanish and English to maximize media coverage
  • Developing target media lists for issue and campaign coverage
  • Representing the organization to the media in both English and Spanish
  • Maintaining detailed records of interactions with celebrities/influencers and members of the media
  • Researching and coordinating opportunities for PETA Latino to have an outreach presence at street festivals, fairs, concerts, etc. in the U.S. and abroad (you will likely be asked to travel within the U.S. and Latin America from time to time).
  • Assisting with the planning and coordination of community outreach, media, and celebrity events
  • Finally, you'll be assisting the Senior Manager of PETA Latino with other responsibilities specific to the program.

How to Land the Gig:

  • You’ll be responsible for getting PETA Latino’s message to the public through the media, so excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English are critical to this role.
  • Working with high-profile individuals requires the ability to be honest, reliable, and discreet. Experience working in a similar field will show us that you have what it takes.
  • You're going to be working with the public, reporters, celebrities/influencers, publicity firms, stylists, and more, so the ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner will be essential.
  • We need someone who can hit the ground running with ideas for media and celebrity/social media influencer campaigns, so extensive interest in and knowledge of Latin popular culture is a must.
  • We’re looking for a top-notch writer, so perfectly presented application materials go a long way.
  • Creativity is key! You must be able to not only develop and pitch ideas, but also develop and execute a plan to turn those ideas into reality.
  • We need a strategic thinker who can conduct and analyze research and work both independently and with the team to maximize the reach of our campaigns for animals.
  • Many people say that they "thrive under pressure," but this position has no shortage of tight deadlines, so you must really be able to crank out high-quality work within short timeframes.
  • This is a high-stakes job! Dealing with the media and celebrities means that you must be very organized and pay close attention to detail.
  • You’ll be working with the press and celebrities, so a professional appearance is key.
  • You must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. drivers' license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
  • This position is responsible for getting our message out to the media and celebrities/social influencers, so you must know PETA campaigns and animal rights issues inside and out.
  • You must support PETA's philosophy and have the ability to professionally advocate our positions on issues.
  • Naturally, you'd need to be committed to the objectives of the organization, and living a vegan lifestyle would be a part of this.
