Asha is a storybook sanctuary and home to Albert the Super Cow and his barnyard friends including chickens, a rooster, donkeys, turkeys, a goat, pigs, sheep, a cow, and a young steer. Job Title: Farm Animal Care Assistant Manager/Vet Tech

Position: The Farm Animal Care Assistant Manager/Vet Tech assists in the care of our rescued farmed animals (pigs, chickens, roosters, cows, turkeys, sheep, goats, donkeys, ducks) living at the sanctuary. The Farm Animal Care Manager/Vet Tech is a supervisory position and is responsible for the management of the shelter including, but not limited to: feeding, watering, medical care, managing staff, interns, volunteers, ordering supplies, fixing gates, doors and fences, working with vendors, store runs, and pitching in to clean shelter, barns, etc. as needed and required.

Responsibilities

  • Animal feeding/watering/grooming/socialization
  • Maintaining animal feed schedules
  • Be in charge of all daily animal health care and maintaining treatment records
  • Leading daily, weekly and monthly species health checks
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate potential candidates for Animal Care Providers
  • Assist with volunteer and intern shelter programs
  • Perform daily safety and perimeter checks
  • Examine all animal habitats and enclosures and fix any issues as necessary
  • Maintaining neat and organized work and storage spaces
  • Attend team meetings
  • Transport animals as needed
  • Ensuring tools & other items are put away at end of day
  • Taking weekly inventory of supplies and ordering what is needed
  • Assisting with veterinary visits and setting up treatment protocols
  • Completing office projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Adhere to a vegan and cruelty-free lifestyle
  • At least 1 year vet tech experience
  • Passionate about working for and with farmed animals
  • At least 1 year of working at a farmed animal sanctuary experience (or related)
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Personable and comfortable working in a team environment
  • Good animal behavior and observation skills
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold/wet weather and hot summers
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Able to follow detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
  • Able to learn and process new information quickly
  • Able to develop new processes and implement
  • Team player and self-motivator

  • Must be willing to drive own car for store runs and transporting small animals

Hours/Days: 40 hours/week, overtime may be required, days off vary depending on activities at the sanctuary; required to work some holidays

Salary: commensurate with experience
