Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

We are looking for a US Campaigns & Communications Manager to support our ambitious efforts while initiating US campaigns to promote the reduction of animal consumption in line with our 5 Pros (Pro-Health, Environment, Animals, Justice, and Taste). The ideal candidate is a talented communicator with an outgoing, positive, and professional attitude, who has experience creating online and written content. This is a new position as ProVeg expands its US efforts, which will build on and expand our public education, corporate outreach, and policy initiatives and will require flexibility and adaptability as political realities, public opinions, and business priorities shift. 

The Campaigns & Communications Manager will report to the US Executive Director and will work collaboratively with other organizing, communications, research, and web staff. The successful candidate will also work closely with allied organizations and volunteers across the country. The candidate will be responsible for representing ProVeg in the media, to our supporters, and to coalitions, while performing organizational and grassroots outreach.

JOB DETAILS

Hours: 40 hours per week

RESPONSIBILITIES

US Campaigning & Organizing (50%)

  • Lead public-facing campaigns to promote food system change and enhance the position of plant-based foods and other alternatives to animal products

  • Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with external stakeholders and identify opportunities and strategies to improve engagement with policy-makers, environmental and other aligned organizations, healthcare officials, corporate leaders, scientific bodies, and grant-making organisations.

  • Build a strong base of organizations and individuals in support of our campaigns; participate in coalitions on campaign issues

  • Plan and coordinate talks, press conferences, and networking events

  • Grow our base of volunteer support and creating a network of organizers and messengers to be able to represent the coalition at public meetings and to bring new folks into the coalition

  • Maintain database of supporter activities, volunteers, allies, and coalitions. 

  • Speak at public events, forums, and other venues, and serve as a representative of ProVeg to the public and the media when needed

  • Engage and inspire a range of audiences – from our supporters and communities to corporate partners, food businesses, and influencers. 


Media & PR (25%)

  • Raise the profile of ProVeg online and offline through writing compelling content for targeted websites, campaigns, social media, mainstream media & PR (including broadcast media), and by working with key influencers.

  • Creating and managing relationships with media, writing engaging press releases, engaging with influencers, and arranging media opportunities for the Director and other spokespersons.


Social Media & Online Content (15%)

  • Research and write content social media posts, blogs, articles, news, etc.) for US-focusedProVeg channels;

  • Develop materials such as factsheets, action alerts, website content and newsletter articles on campaign issues.


Strategic Support (10%)

  • Support the US Director in managing the US communications/campaigns budgets and action plans; prepare internal reporting on key communications targets and performance, and ad hoc external reporting to donors, sponsors and other stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Proven experience with a minimum of three years of working in communications and/or campaigning, campaigning, preferably in the vegan, environmental, or animal advocacy movement 

  • Experience in organizing public campaigns and marketing events for nonprofit or international organisations.

  • Experience managing external communications channels, including social media, email, and traditional media

  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills; additional language skills (especially Spanish) desirable 

  • Strong organizational skills, and an ability to balance short-term priorities with long-term goals and strategies.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively in a fast-paced and small -- but rapidly growing -- nonprofit work environment

  • Experience drafting press materials, talking to reporters, and giving interviews in a professional manner

  • Self-starter personality with a curious and creative nature and a drive to continuously improve.

  • Outstanding networking skills, and experience in building productive relationships with key media stakeholders and influencers, and in recruiting and managing volunteers remotely.

  • Strong collaboration and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a team of people from diverse backgrounds

  • Understanding of and alignment with ProVeg International’s vision and mission

  • Willingness to occasionally travel nationally and internationally. 

Preferred

  • Relevant university degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or other relevant fields

  • Experience with bulk email and social content management software, and digital organizing and outreach tools

  • Understanding of effective altruism

  • Established connections with national media.

  • Experience working in a field relating to veganism, health, environment, animal protection, or food

  • Strong knowledge about US agriculture, nutrition/health and environmental issues a plus

  • Knowledge of food innovation sector and foodservice industry a plus

  • Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics.
