Job Description

Sanctuary / Shelter Veterinarian

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary and Griffin Pond Animal Shelter are pleased to announce a new position at the forefront of shelter veterinary medicine. Together, we are seeking a full-time Veterinarian, ideally  with a focus/certification in both integrative and shelter medicine.

This is a great career opportunity for a self-motivated, compassionate, talented veterinarian to change and improve the lives of rescued animals throughout northeastern Pennsylvania by heading up a new nonprofit veterinary practice which supports not only animals rescued by Indraloka and Griffin Pond, but also animals rescued by select partner organizations. We view this salaried position as the first of several veterinary positions that will be added over time as the incumbent grows the program successfully.

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, a GFAS-  and ASA-accredited sanctuary, is home to approximately 300 farm animals. At Indraloka they are given lifelong safety, personalized care, love, and enrichment. Nearby Griffin Pond Animal Shelter takes in and adopts out approximately 1,500 companion animals annually. The Shelter and Sanctuary Veterinarian will split her/his time between these two organizations (1 ½ days per week for each organization) and provide services to partner rescue groups, shelters, and sanctuaries at either Indraloka or Griffin Pond’s location (for approximately 2 days per week).

The Shelter and Sanctuary Veterinarian is responsible for providing and supporting high-quality integrative medical care to multiple species (both large and small) in collaboration with a team of dedicated and experienced caregivers and veterinary technicians. The Veterinarian reports to the Executive Director of Indraloka with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Executive Director at Griffin Pond.

Salary will be commensurate with experience with the starting range being $70,000 - $89,000 plus a competitive benefits package, including paid time off; health, dental, vision, and life insurance; 401K plan.

The ideal candidate:

  • Holds a Pennsylvania Veterinary License in good standing
  • Holds a current DEA license
  • Has previous experience working with farm and companion animals as a large animal, small animal, or avian specialist
  • Possesses a minimum of two years of experience in shelter medicine with high volume spay / neuter experience
  • Has a comfort with and ability to develop expertise working with all species in Indraloka and Griffin Pond’s care, including horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, quail, peafowl, rabbits, dogs and cats

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary values diversity, fosters a culture of inclusion, and is an equal opportunity employer.
