Job Description

Are you looking to combine your love of animals with your love of writing? Do you enjoy storytelling and persuasive writing?

Use your skills as a force for good and help the rescue animals of Lanta Animal Welfare! You’ll get to live on the beautiful island of Koh Lanta, Thailand and work with over 100 rescue cats and dogs at our rescue and rehabilitation center.

We’re looking for someone who knows how to craft stories to get an emotional response. Your words should motivate and inspire people to help animals in any way they can, but your primary focus will be on increasing recurring donations.

Strong candidates will also have a knack for photography, videography as well as photo and video editing. All of these skills are important aspects of the role as you will need to combine words with strong imagery to compel people to take action, especially donate.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of three years of professional writing experience. Experience in nonprofit writing is a huge plus, or at least an eagerness to learn and apply best practices.

Job Summary:

Tell the stories of the animals of Lanta Animal Welfare and the donor’s role in their future through the use of strong creative writing skills, to solicit and increase regular charitable donations.


• Write compelling, emotive fundraising appeals for our digital channels, including email, social media, and website, with a focus on regular giving

• Regularly document the progress of the animals in our care through captivating photography and video

• Develop and maintain a communications calendar for both email and social media

• Ensure there is always enough collateral in the form of photos and video to facilitate regular communication

• Produce short, emotive videos for social media, telling the stories of the animals in our care and the viewer’s role in their welfare

• Respond to donor emails and social media messages/comments in a timely manner, providing any necessary information as requested

• Produce persuasive copy to promote and increase adoptions

• Provide copy and imagery for any printed materials, including leaflets and posters

• Occasionally write copy for articles about LAW in external sources, on and offline

• Regularly post LAW news/updates on other relevant social media channels, such as on Facebook pages aimed at the local community

• Assist with general administrative duties and other tasks as required

Skills and Required Experience:


 • A passion for storytelling. You have long practiced creative writing as a hobby or you may even have experience as a professional copywriter. You excel at writing emotive prose that brings stories to life. Whether you have worked as an advertising copywriter or you have won prizes in school for your short stories, you possess and understand the power of the written word to move people to action

 • Native English speaker

 • Excellent writing, editing, spelling/grammar, and proofreading skills

 • High level of attention to detail

 • Some understanding of the concept of donor-centric fundraising communication (placing the donor at the heart of the story) or a desire to learn and put this into practice

 • A willingness to read, follow, and sign up to regular ongoing learning from the industry leaders in donor-centric fundraising communication

 • A desire to use your writing skills for the greater good

 • A deep love of animals and a passion for animal welfare

 • Prepared to commit to at least 9 months working full-time in Thailand


 • Strong photography and videography skills with a desire for continuous improvement

 • Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop or similar software

 • Experience in website maintenance and an understanding of SEO writing

 • An interest in the latest trends in social media and online marketing

 • Experience working with social media platforms and websites

 • Constant research and keeping up to date with new advances in social media/online marketing and social media technology

 • Proficient with computers (Microsoft Office, Word Press/limited HTML)

 • Able to work both independently and as part of a team

 • Able to prioritize and to multitask, adapting to a flexible schedule that includes weekend work

 • Experience working in an international environment, ideally in Asia, and in remote locations


- Work hours: 8-hour shifts, alternating 5/6 working days per week. Flexibility is required.

- Stipend: 15,000THB per month (the cost of living in Thailand is 5 times less than in western countries)

- First month will be on a volunteer basis (no stipend)
