About CAARE : Citizens for Alternatives to Animal Research and Experimentation (CAARE) is a national nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting superior, humane, alternatives to animal experimentation.   CAARE educates the public, media, legislators and scientists about strategies to reduce and replace animal research with new and emerging scientific modalities not requiring the use of animals.   Role Summary :  CAARE is seeking a fundraising/development specialist to solicit major gifts and prospects to grow CAARE’s operating budget. Reporting to the President/Executive Director, the Development Specialist will take primary responsibility for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gift prospects and donors to meet or exceed annual revenue goals.   The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of fundraising success and a broad development background, with strong personal experience in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors. They will combine this experience with a strong commitment to the specific issues on which CAARE works.  Experience working in nonprofits, especially related to animal advocacy, is desirable. This is a six-month position with the possibility of continuing based on performance. Responsibilities: Develop and implement a strategy for all cultivation and solicitation activities of the major gifts program, including corporate and matching donor programs Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of CAARE’s programs, and utilize that knowledge to shape pitches, proposals, and be a compelling ambassador for the organization Ensure that revenue goals, timelines, and activity plans are met Develop a plan to cultivate relationships with future and current donors and increase annual gifts Assist with drafting thank you letters and creating plans for acknowledgment of donations Required Qualifications: Minimum of 3 years development experience, including experience in frontline fundraising Solid understanding of the donor cultivation process from identification, to qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Demonstrated success and track record of growing a revenue stream, ideally from major gifts Demonstrated ability to foster long-term relationships with high-net-worth individuals and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects Experience in researching individuals, corporations, and foundations, and ability to match donor’s priorities to CAARE’s programs and initiatives Superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to articulate the importance and urgency of CAARE’s work in a compelling way Strong leadership, organization and time management skills Self-directed and ability to work with minimal supervision Ability to maintain confidentiality Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in locating foundations and reviewing grant applications Experience in the non-profit sector, especially animal advocacy Knowledge of planned giving is a plus Experience analyzing Securities & Exchange Commission filings and other financial data a plus Bachelor’s degree preferred  Benefits of working with CAARE The selected candidate will be able to work from home, and set their own schedule, provided that an adequate number of hours are coordinated with the President’s schedule.
