Job Description

Closing date for applications: Mon 11 Mar 2013 at 9 am GMT.

Candidate interviews: Week commencing Mon 18 Mar 2013.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated, highly-organised, self-starter to make a significant contribution, as part of the Communications, Public Policy and Research (CPPR) team, to the development of a growing charity. The role will support The Vegan Society in achieving its vision through funding for innovative campaigns.

The aim of this role is to strengthen The Vegan Society’s profile in print and broadcast media, building relationships with journalists and connecting them with our stories. Working with the Head of CPPR and the senior management team you will devise and implement a media relations strategy aimed at raising the profile of the Society throughout the UK (and internationally if appropriate) while supporting the work of the CPPR and Business Development departments.

The successful candidate will likely be media savvy and persuasive with the ability to ‘sell’ stories to local, specialist and national press. You will possess excellent copywriting skills and will be able to adapt to turn around media requests quickly. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to work with a wide variety of contacts.

The Vegan Society, the world’s first, is an educational charity that promotes and supports the vegan lifestyle – formed in 1944, by a group of vegetarians who recognised the ethical compromises of eating eggs and dairy products. We are the first point of contact for people thinking about going vegan, new vegans and those seeking information, including caterers, print and broadcast media, health professionals, teachers and government.

This office-based role is initially for one year with the possibility of extension. This position is for 30 or 37.5 hours per week, and the starting salary is between £17,000 and £18,000 pro rata.

The Vegan Society welcomes diversity amongst its Members, Officers and Trustees and associated persons and is committed to equal opportunities and anti-discrimination practice in all areas of its work, including its governing Council.
